Cresset Discovery Services (CDS) interviewed, hired, trained and placed computational chemistry staff at a customer site. This involved the successful transition from a client outsourcing computational chemistry to having their own in-house resource. Cresset and the client continue to collaborate on ongoing projects.

Outsourcing computational chemistry to CDS
CDS has provided an outsourced computational chemistry service to this medium sized drug discovery company for a number of years, providing support and insight to their medicinal chemistry projects on an ongoing collaborative basis.
Initially it was very cost effective for them to outsource all of their computational chemistry. With time, as they validated the ideas and proved the value to their discovery work, they bought Cresset software for internal use by their team of medicinal chemists.
Building a computational chemistry team at the client site
CDS supported their chemists as they used the software, but it soon became apparent that they needed staff that could focus fully on their work.
CDS recruited two full time members of staff on a contractual temporary basis. We supported the staff and the customer during an interim period of training and transition. As the workload increased, the contractual staff transitioned to full time roles as employees of the client.
The charging structure was based on days worked on the client project. CDS put confidentiality agreements in place to ensure that the client’s IP was fully protected throughout the whole process.
A permanent in-house computational chemistry resource
The customer now has a permanent in-house computational chemistry resource to support their medicinal chemistry projects. As the workload varies, they continue to outsource projects to CDS. There continues to be very close working relationships between their in-house medicinal and computational chemists and CDS.
